Car insurance service

In Thailand, when we talk about “Compulsory Insurance,” we are usually referring to Por.Ror.Bor. (The Protection for Motor Vehicle Victims Act). This is a legal requirement for every vehicle registered with the Department of Land Transport. Here is a simple summary of the key points you should know:
1. Who is covered?
The Por.Ror.Bor. does not cover vehicle damage. Instead, it covers “people” who are injured or lose their lives in a car accident. This includes:
  • The driver (whether they are at fault or not)
  • Passengers
  • Pedestrians
2. Coverage Limits (Updated)
Coverage is divided into two main parts:
  • Preliminary Compensation: (Paid immediately without waiting for proof of fault)
  • Injury: Actual expenses up to 30,000 THB
  • Death/Disability: 35,000 THB
  • Additional Compensation: (Paid after being proven as the party not at fault)
  • Medical Expenses: Up to 80,000 THB
  • Death/Permanent Disability: 500,000 THB
  • Daily Indemnity (Inpatient): 200 THB/day (up to 20 days)
3. Why is it necessary? (Besides the law)
  • Tax Renewal: Without Por.Ror.Bor., you cannot renew your annual vehicle tax.
  • Fines: If inspected by police and found without it, the fine can be up to 10,000 THB.
  • Safety Net: It helps ease the burden of sudden medical expenses, which is crucial, especially in severe accidents.
Caution: Por.Ror.Bor. does not cover vehicle repairs for you or the other party. If you want coverage for vehicle damage, loss, or fire, you will need to purchase Voluntary Insurance (Type 1, 2+, 3+) additionally.
